Family Day Weekend is "For the Birds" at the Wye Marsh Midland

Midland Ontario, 411ontariokids.com and Wye Marsh will participate in the 2012 Great Backyard Bird Count this Family Day weekend and they need your family's help.

Great Backyard Bird Count 2012 Family Day The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s fun and easy—and it helps the birds.

Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre Family day 2012The Wye Marsh in Midland will be asking families to help count birds while visiting the wildlife centre this Family Day weekend. Families wishing to participate will be given a tally sheet and are asked to count 4 types of birds commonly found at the marsh, blue jays, gold finches, chickadees and cardinals. More Family Day Activities

The Wye Marsh will also have plenty of events to celebrate Family Day weekend and on February 20th will have bannock roasting, birdhouse craft, snowman dress-up, snowball target throwing, winter bingo, a scavenger hunt and other fun family activities.

Both organizations are excited to participate in this continent wide tally of the bird population. It is a great opportunity for your children to learn not only about the local bird population but learn about the bigger picture of birds and their habitats. Results will be posted on the GBBC website so it is something your children can follow up on see results. 411ontariokids.com will also post results of the count so make sure to check back after Family Day!
