Altberg Nature Reserve Kawarthas Outdoors Getaways

Volunteer tourism at the Altberg Nature Reserve was an enjoyable Ontario outdoors experience this past May 14 weekend. The annual amphibian search took place with about 10 volunteers counting a variety of species including the Yellow Spotted Salamander, Red-backed Salamander. Additional species identified were Green Frogs, Wood Frogs, Garter Snakes. Sounds of the American Toad could be heard during the days event. Visiting an Ontario Nature Reserves is one of Ontario's best deals because it is a free attraction. There were a number of marked trails in the Altberg Reserve where I intend on returning in the near future.  Ontario Trilliums were in full bloom.

Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) reminds Canadians that distracted driving is about more than using hand-held devices.

"Distractions come in many forms and although putting down the cellphone when driving is a good first step, drivers are urged to limit all distractions. Eating behind the wheel, fiddling with the radio and reaching for a fallen object are just a few examples of distractions that are dangerous and avoidable," said Ralph Palumbo, Vice-President, Ontario, IBC.http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/May2011/17/c5228.html
