Barrie Ontario is often consider the beginning of cottage country. However for those unfamiliar with the destination, hearing about Ontario
cottage-country has been a challenge defining
where “cottage nirvana” is located as much as “what it consists of”.
A serious assessment of the problem is
discussed in great detail in a story in The Globe and Mail by Charles Leech “I'm an immigrant who's never been
invited to the cottage”. Mr. Leech’s belief that cottage-goers belong
to an elite group is far removed from reality.
It is all about “cottage country”, not the cottage property. The amenities, the furnishings or lack
there-of are all very subjective.

to inherit a cottage, most Ontario residents can only dream of the perfect
cottage country location. As economic
fortune increases, one progresses through an evolutionary stage from tent camping to renting a camping platform. More comfort requirements involve a move to a
cabin rental. With additional children a
cottage resort stay is preferential. Eventually a seasonal
cottage purchase is possible with the future dream of the transformation into a
second-home or full time cottage-home.
