History buffs are sure to celebrate the legacacy of John Graves Simcoe, as the greatest influencer on the building of Ontario's road system among other achievements such as eliminating slavery.
His surname Simcoe stands out on Ontario maps as in Lake Simcoe and Simcoe County and the town of Simcoe.
Contrary to popular belief he was never made a "Lord", but had a hotel in Toronto named after him called the Lord Simcoe Hotel. Up until this year a favourite watering hole in Barrie was called the Simcoe hotel. A photo of the sign from the Barrie Ontario hotel is shown below and was included in the Barrie Doors Open Event in 2009.
