At the junction of Bayfield Street in Barrie and Highway 400, one can look south east and see Kempenfelt Bay on Lake Simcoe. The further north one travels, more lakes appear. For example the 400 runs just East of Georgian Bay (Lake Huron). Travellers can see Georgian Bay at Waubashene, and the Trent Severn Waterway at Port Severn.
