Sainte-Marie among the Hurons created an informative, active, educational and fun day for all ages on National Aboriginal Day June 21.  If by chance you missed this event you can still catch a weekend of events on June 25, 26 as National Aboriginal Month continues with the Aboriginal Festival Weekend. 

For more than 2 hours the kids were kept busy and fascinated with a variety of activities including  story telling and drumming, outdoor lacrosse in the fort, making a bone game, water proofing a canoe with pine tar, making faces in clay, decorating a mini-paddle, and watching historic native dancing...the chicken dance was very entertaining.   Stay in Midland area with a variety of accommodation.

Huronia Museum & Huron/Ouendat Village - Midland, Ontario

Huronia Museum & Huron/Ouendat Village - The Historic Art of Huronia Gallery in the museum building opened and displays art by David Milne, Homer Watson, Manly MacDonald, Franklin Arbuckle, Hilton Hassell, Mary Hallen (Victorian era watercolours), William J. Wood, Thor Hansen, Ted Lord, Group of Seven artists (A.Y. Jackson, Franz Johnston, J. E. H. MacDonald) along with contemporary art, native art and archaelogical collections of Ouendat and Ojibway First Nations. Other exhibits are about Georgian Bay lighthouses, shipwrecks, maritime and military heritage. There is also an extensive photographic collection of the work of Midland’s long-time professional photographer, John W. Bald.
