Trumpeter Swans on Kempenfelt Bay Lake Simcoe

During the snowy week of December 8th about a dozen Trumpeters showed up to feed on Kempenfelt Bay Lake Simcoe, along the Barrie Waterfront.

Most likely they arrived from the Wye Marsh in Midland.

  1. I have seen a wonderful flock of swans over here at Cooks Bay for the last 3 days. I counted about 25 or 26 birds. They sail around the bay mostly in pairs, dip their heads in and feed every now and then. At first I thought the distant white objects were floating ice blocks - til they moved. A lovely sight to see these graceful birds in the bay. I had no idea that swans were here on Lake Simcoe - I have been a summer cottager for 60 years (not a frequent winter visitor though) and had never seen swans here. A much more pleasant bird to watch than the dozens of geese now perched on our front lawn (ugh)

  2. Thanks Linda, we have not seen that many up at this end on Kempenfelt bay, however I will post one of my recent photos of a pair with 3 young ones. Cheers, Ron
